NONGOR is a voluntary, nonprofit, social development organization established in 2001. It has been registered by the different departments of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh including NGOAB, Department of Social Services, Department of Youth Development and Department of Narcotics Control. NONGOR is a pioneer organization working for the betterment of poor, marginalized and underprivileged and people in high risk.
NONGOR started its journey as a volunteer organization and now turned into a potential rights and advocacy platform for the poor, marginalized, ethnic and socially excluded people. It is also incorporating civil society and other social elements to work together in the battle against poverty. NONGOR is always trying to perceive development from a rights view point and continue questioning any development philosophies or approached within the light of ethnic, diversity, culture, practice and values of Bangladesh.
It has a very good track record on health care services especially on HIV/AIDS and drug dependence rehabilitation treatment since 2001 in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban district. It has been continuing an integrated rehabilitation centre for Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Moreover, it is experienced on implementation on food security, psycho-social counseling, blood screening, and health services through medical camp, non-formal education and support to the affected people in emergency response.
It began by carrying out drug awareness sessions in schools, colleges, Police, Religious Leaders, Drugs and HIV-AIDS targeted Peoples, Hospital/Clinic, local Ward Commissioners’ offices and District Administration offices. Between 2001 and 2016, NONGOR was initiating an own funded rehabilitation & detoxification treatment project for vulnerable & marginalized drug dependent population around Cox’s Bazar (This is the First Rehabilitation Centre in Cox’s Bazar even South Chittagong). Thereafter at Chittagong in 2003 and Teknaf in 2004 NONGOR ran a three-month program on the Narcotics Anonymous model & TC model. Over 5500 drug dependent clients free from drugs & served over 120,000 beneficiaries throughout the health project. There are also several projects implemented by NONGOR with the support of different GO/NGOs which describes in track records of the organization.
